Today we had an all day shoot for the new products of the SeiBella’s brand that will come out in the new catalog in a couple months. SeiBella is Melaleuca’s skin, hair and makeup line for women. Sei Bella’s products are probably by far the hardest ones to shoot because most of its packaging is made out of a combination of metal and transparent acrylic. This means that there are two very different surfaces to light and this makes it very challenging. It was fun to learn some techniques on how to achieve better lighting for highly reflective products and also those that are a combination of transparent and highly reflective.
Something important to remember is that when you have a highly reflective surface you need to light the surface that the highly reflective surface is reflecting and not the highly reflective surface directly. In case of a transparent surface similar to glass you have to light the background. If you try to light the transparent surface or the highly reflective surface directly you will get specular highlights and very nasty lighting.
Something important with SeiBella’s products was that we had to match the colors as much as possible because that is very important with makeup. We always do an color correction in post but it is very important to get it as close as possible in camera.
